PRIME CD is a New York-based record label whose focus is giving national exposure to
quality music, regardless of genre. The result is an eclectic roster of artists; styles
ranging from roots-rock, to electric blues, to singer/songwriter, to alternative country.
By signing established artists such as Popa Chubby (whose previous release on Sony 550 topped 75,000 units) and Aztec Two-Step (whose Elektra albums sold more than 250,000 units), while simultaneously developing talented newer artists such as 5 Chinese Brothers, Susan McKeown, Nate Ouderkirk and Annie Gallup, PRIME CD has achieved respect throughout the industry as steadily as its increased visibility. Founded in 1993 by David Seitz (producer and recording engineer for such established artists as Christine Lavin, Dar Williams, John Gorka, Suzanne Vega, Shawn Colvin and Richard Shindell), PRIME CD originally distributed its releases only through the toll-free number "1-800-PRIME-CD." These releases quickly became popular, enabling PRIME CD to secure coast-to coast United States distribution. Several of its artists have secured established, national booking agents and are touring extensively. PRIME CD has also secured European distribution during the past year. Indeed, PRIME CD is currently considering Asian and South American distribution offers. With several of PRIME CD's artists nominated for NAIRD awards (the independent label equivalent of the Grammys), reviews of its releases in publications such as Billboard and Rolling Stone and substantial AAA, Americana and public radio airplay; the "little label that could" is well on its way to increasing success!!
