Not Lame Records
This label is for the pop fan,
first and foremost. it is our aim to invoke salacious, hook salivating responses to this fan. the bands and releases here are
the most accomplished in this respect, trust. they are truly magnificent slabs of hooks, melodies and pure pop heaven. plus,
your purchase of them, helps keep not lame a viable lightning rod (one of many) on the pop scene. this all is a labor of love,
but it isn't a philanthropy so indulge safely into these pop helpings and, hell, even try out some of them out and give them a
listen in the listening booth just to be sure!
there are three labels. not lame recordings, not lame archives and not lame limited. nlr signs, markets, distributes and develops the very best of 'power pop' oriented talent in the world and bands on this label tend to stick around so you can witness and experience their growth over the years. not lame archives re-releases long out of print, lost pop classics from totally obscure bands (the toms) to more popular ones (the posies). it is meant to be an archeological site for music fans. not lame limited is a non-exclusive arrangement between not lame and a band/artist that wants to release a project, but wants to be unencumbered by 'paper' (re: contracts). major label castoff bands (wanderlust, doug powell) are attracted to this arrangement as it allows them to do their business and get their music into the hands of their fans in non-obligatory manner. these releases tend to be low-pressing volumes and go out of print fairly quickly, though.
i call the labels a family as that is the way not lame views its work with the artists/bands and their music. youll hear not lame loudly proclaiming the artistic worth of any and all bands/artists on any of its labels because, when you put your money where your mouth is, you really believe in that. and its true here. these releases typify the reason for being for not lame recordings. this is why we live, breathe and seethe this stuff not only in our professional lives, but in our personal lives. we, also, love the people in the band. they matter to us, personally, not as a piece of industry driven product. simply, the modus operandii of the labels is to release "pop records for pop people". releases do not come into being in the hopes of being picked up by a major label or because they may sell countless thousands of dollars that will make everyone rich. bullocks to that. they are released and, hopefully, become a part of your life because we love the music. i mean, really love it. johnny rotten said it best over 20 years ago."we mean it, maaaannn!".
check out the liberal sound samplings of the releases(and other distributed releases) in the listening booth. your ears, in the end, our the best judge. enjoy! |
