Kranky Records

The kranky label began in the spring of 1993 after the owners heard the debut Labradford 7" single and contacted the band. Labradford agreed to be guinea pigs for the brand new label run by two guys they had never met and in November 1993 kranky released "Prazision LP" as a double LP and compact disc with catalog number krank001.

At the end of 1999 kranky had released 38 full length albums and 2 EPs by Amp, Jessica Bailiff, Bowery Electric, Dadamah, dissolve, Doldrums, Flies Inside The Sun, godspeed you black emperor!, Jessamine, Low, Magnog, Roy Montgomery, Pan^ÀAmerican, Philosopher's Stone, James Plotkin : Mark Spybey, James Plotkin/Brent Gutzeit, The Spiny Anteaters, Stars Of The Lid,Tomorrowland, Windy & Carl and Labradford. The goals of the label have always been to release albums that the owner-operators think they'll want to listen to ten years from now and to facilitate the greatest possible creative freedom for the artists on the label.

In 2000 kranky will release new albums from Pan American, Tomorrowland, Stars Of the Lid, Windy & Carl and godspeed you black emperor!
