Idol Records was established in Dallas, TX in October 1992 by Erv Karwelis who is still the labels sole owner and only full time employee. The first release which was financed on Erv's credit card was a compilation titled "Get It Through Your Thick Skull" that featured 11 North Texas based bands including the first ever recordings by Hagfish, Baboon and Brutal Juice who all went on to major labels and national acclaim.

As of the end of 1999 the label has put out 19 releases ranging from punk, space rock, pop and rock. The roster include many of North Texas' most prominent bands including Old 97's, Funland, Centro-matic, Mazinga Phaser, The Falcon Project, Pervis and The American Fuse along with several bands from across the country and some internationally acclaimed punk bands includin GBH from England and Billyclub who are now transplanted to Dallas and consists of former members of the U.K. Subs, Exploited, and Discharge.
